1:32 scale gauge 1 EMD SW-1500 3d printed diesel locomotive

Thanks to the generosity of Daniel Noree I can produce a kit of parts for the basic 1:32 scale bodywork and chassis of the EMD SW-1500 diesel locomotive.
I have adapted his design files to produce stronger and more stable prints and added in a very minor amount of extra detail. I could, if needed, print the complete chassis, bogies and bodyshell as one piece but other than perhaps proving a point that is not the sensible way to go, even for a static model. I print the frame in one piece for strength. The cab walls can be treated similarly. I provide an approximation to the cab's interior.
The motor housing deserves some thought, I have printed a housing in one go but my preference is to produce the front radiator and surround as a separate piece (to make it easier to adapt for working bulbs) and also to separate out the top grille (to provide a topside access hatch to any switches or charging sockets you may want to install). With the underside fuel tank there is an option for one hollowed out (possibly suitable for mounting a speaker) or for one with a recessed floor (providing a hidden mouting space for an underside charging socket and/or other switches).

Printing the locomotive is a lengthy process. Given the time and money invested I will be happy to fit in with your choice of any readily available filament colour. If you have no preference then I suggest grey, it can be overpainted by most pale colours and it does not look too ridiculous if the paint abrades away.
The ideal motorisation unit for this would be from the MTH model Baldwin VO-1000, it has the correct trucks complete with both analogue ac or dc operation with default sounds or full control over all the effects including sound, lights, smoke and operating couplers with the digital controller. That model is also extremely well detailed. Being blunt if you have the VO-1000 I would hate to see it being sacrificed for an SW-1500, many may not have seen them but the MTH gauge 1 products were real bargains at the time, pray that they reissue some. Lesser brand power bogies are still available that can substitute and it is your choice to determine whether you want the simplicity of analogue track power or battery and/or digital or remote control.
In terms of completing the model you will need to source power bogies (unless happy with a static piece), couplers, "glazing", a small sheet of plastic card for the cab roof (template supplied), 1.5 mm wire for the handrails (I used 1.6mm steel welding rod but 1.5mm aluminium rod would have been easier, LEDs for any interior or exterior lighting plus smoke units as suits your fancy and the abilities of your power control system. The complete kit of printed parts costs 400 gbp (including the plastic wheels and truck bodies for a static model). You may deduct gbp 15 if you do not need the wheels and truck chassis and pivots (but want the exterior truck frames). You may deduct a further gbp 15 if you do not need any of the truck components at all. Sadly I do not receive enough income to operate as anything other than a "micro" and am not VAT registered. Customers outside of the EC should expect to pay import duty.
For the moment I will offer free postage within the EC and to the UK.

If you have any questions regarding colours or other details then please email before putting any money down.
